Miss Information is feeling somewhat less secure

Well, it was bound to happen. The library's security guard was beaten up today. You know, the security guard who is the first (only?) line of defence between all those evil-doers and the frail, girly library staff? The one who's supposed to have all these strategies to avoid, you know, getting the snot kicked out of him by a library patron?

Miss Information will not be mentioning this to her mother.

Good grief! What sort of library is this?? I don't know what the heck is wrong with people in our world today.

Hmm, and here we are worried we don't have a security guard. Wonders what's worse: not having one and having the crime happen, or having on and having him get beat up. I have to ask too, what the heck kind of library do you work in? Mine is pretty bad, but the campus cops have not gotten beat up yet. The again, they are armed.

What kind of library is it? My bet is it's the kind with patrons in it. There isn't a lot you can do about that: there's no monopoly on craziness. That said, my branch is an inner-city one where encounters with violent acts and bodily fluids are common. 2 staff members were assaulted by members of the public who walked out even before the security guard could get to the scene. He's a good guy, but he can only move so fast. We didn't even get him full-time until after the second assault.

First of all, what I think this security guard needs is join a self-defense class. I tell you, if the security guard (which protects the location) gets beat up... then Houston, we've got a problem!

Next to get beat up is one of you poor librarians after finishing up the security. Sheeeeesh. WEAK!

we don't even have security in my More Northern library. I have to kick the super ninja teenagers out, the crazies, and the crack head Moms.

I'm always worried I'll lose a cufflink when I have to get aggressive.
