At 4:10 on Saturday

Young high school student approaches the desk says:

You know the first five babies ever born? You got them?

Miss Information finds her books on the Dionne Quintuplets and wonders why Saturdays are so damn irritating.

Today we had three phone calls from 3 different youths wanting to know the annual salary of scientists, not the "special" ones, but the "regular" ones. Yet another Lost in Translation assignment.

The first five babies ever born? Well, first there was Cain, then there was Able, then there was Seth. . .

And as to whether we "got them", they returned to ashes and dust eons ago.

Imagine the fun we could have if we were to give literal answers to the questions people really are asking, rather than what they think they are asking.

hard at work in the preservation world... yesterday I did a google search for "metadata specialist" which lead to the wonderous world of the Well Dressed Librarian. Today, I take time a moment to continue following the thread and here I am... nirvana. Miss Information, my new hero (heroine, if you prefer the gender-specific)

I had a request from a high school girl for a copy of "Tequila Mockingbird", and all she knew about it was that it was by Shakespeare. I made the executive decision to start her out with the Harper Lee version, and let her work her way back to the Olde English version.

(I did search for the "Curious George Visits Boo Radley" version, but sadly, to no avail. I think pictures would have helped.)
